Description

A finely engraved Persian brass astrolabe from the Qajar period, of traditional form, with a cusped throne and suspension ring. Both sides are intricately inscribed in elegant naskh and thuluth scripts, featuring concentric astronomical and mathematical scales. The front (mater) is decorated with radiating circles and Arabic inscriptions, incorporating engraved motifs including animals, trees, and symbolic figures, reflecting both scientific and artistic intent.

The reverse bears further engraved tables and grids with astronomical calculations, including calendar, zodiac, and altitude scales. The craftsmanship exemplifies the enduring Persian mastery of scientific instrument design during the Qajar era.
