Description

A finely engraved brass astrolabe of traditional form, comprising a mater with an openwork rete and multiple interchangeable plates (tympans), each finely inscribed with celestial coordinates and Arabic script. The front is beautifully engraved with concentric scales, astrological markings, and inscriptions, all executed with precision and clarity. The reverse features additional engraved scales and tables, including the shadow square, zodiacal calendar, and altitude circles.

The rete is intricately cut with pointers representing prominent stars, centred around the ecliptic circle. The astrolabe retains its original alidade and suspension ring, with fine detailing to the throne and limb.
