Description

A fine Indian miniature painting depicting a royal hunting scene, executed in opaque pigments and gold on paper. The composition shows a nobleman mounted on a richly caparisoned elephant, accompanied by attendants as they engage in a dramatic encounter with a tiger in a hilly landscape. The figures are adorned in detailed courtly attire, and the elephant is draped with an ornate textile of red and gold.


The background, painted in soft hues of ochre and blue, captures the rhythmic movement of wind-swept trees and rolling hills beneath stylized clouds, typical of the late Mughal and early Rajput painting traditions. The painting is set within a series of ruled borders in red, green, and gold.
