Description
A beautifully illuminated and rare North African (Maghribi) manuscript of the celebrated devotional work Dalā’il al-Khayrāt by the Moroccan Sufi scholar Imam al-Jazuli (d. 870 AH / 1465 CE). This exquisite volume, penned and signed by the scribe Ahmad al-Harthi, is dated 1124 AH (1712 CE), placing it firmly within the early 18th century.
The manuscript is executed in bold Maghribi script in black, red, blue, and gold inks. It features fine illumination throughout, including richly colored geometric and vegetal decorations, gilded cartouches, and marginal embellishments. The opening pages are adorned with intricate floral and arabesque motifs, and section headings are elegantly written in alternating colored inks for visual emphasis.
Bound in its original brown tooled leather binding with a central medallion and flap, the manuscript displays clear signs of devotional use, consistent with its age and function as a personal prayer book. The text contains supplications and blessings upon the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), forming one of the most widely read prayer manuals in the Islamic world.
This manuscript exemplifies the spiritual and artistic traditions of the Maghribi school of manuscript production, notable for its distinctive script, vibrant palette, and devotional purpose.
