Description

A finely painted Iznik pottery border tile from 17th-century Ottoman Turkey, decorated in a vibrant palette of cobalt blue, turquoise, emerald green, and bole red. The design features a central rosette flanked by symmetrical floral sprays of saz leaves, carnations, and stylised blossoms, all set against a crisp white ground. A braided green border runs along the lower edge, completing the composition.

The colours retain excellent vibrancy, with the characteristic raised red bole and brilliant cobalt typical of late classical Iznik production. The reverse shows the original sandy fritware body with traces of age-related wear and kiln marks.

An elegant example of Iznik ceramic artistry, this tile would have originally formed part of a larger architectural frieze. Today it stands as a fine decorative piece for collectors of Ottoman ceramics and Islamic art.
