Lot 103: A LARGE HISPANO MORESQUE LUSTRE CHARGER, SPAIN, 19TH CENTURY
0 views
A finely decorated Hispano-Moresque charger featuring a central swirling rosette motif painted in vibrant cobalt blue, encircled by stylised foliate sprays on a shimmering copper lustre ground. The rich metallic sheen is accentuated by intricate floral and vine designs that demonstrate the continuation of the centuries-old Valencian and Manises ceramic traditions.
The wide rim is densely covered with lustre decoration, creating a striking contrast against the vivid blue highlights. The reverse is painted with bold scrolling motifs in reddish-brown on a cream glaze, typical of Hispano-Moresque revival wares of the 19th century.
