ISLAMIC, INDIAN & ANCIENT ART
Lot 93:
Description
Of circular form with a broad raised rim and four pronounced bosses surrounding a central medallion, the plaque is finely engraved with interlaced arabesques and inscriptions. The central roundel displays a large eight-petalled rosette, each petal filled with dense geometric scrolls, encircled by a broad band of cursive calligraphy. The surrounding bosses are similarly decorated with interlacing strapwork, balanced symmetrically to reinforce the radial design. The outer field is covered with further concentric calligraphic inscriptions interspersed with vegetal motifs, their flowing script contrasting with the rigid geometry of the rosette. The reverse is plain, showing the hammered recesses of the bosses.
Diameter: 49cm
