ISLAMIC, INDIAN & ANCIENT ART
Lot 253:
Description
The jacket is worked on a deep indigo ground lavishly embroidered in metallic thread, forming a rich network of scrolling arabesques, floral sprays, and boteh motifs. The front panels are symmetrically arranged with vertical registers of spiraling tendrils, interspersed with blossoms and leaves outlined in shimmering gold. The borders, sleeve bands, and hems are further enriched with dense geometric and floral embroidery, creating a striking contrast against the dark textile ground. Small appliquéd lozenge-shaped red silk ornaments enliven the chest, adding a vivid accent to the otherwise monochrome scheme. The reverse mirrors the opulence of the front, with large triangular panels of metallic embroidery forming an architectural arrangement, suggestive of domed niches.
