Lot 193:
Description
This oil on canvas painting portrays Naser al-Din Shah Qajar (r. 1848–1896), shown seated in formal attire, wearing a richly decorated uniform with sash and orders, and a sword resting across his lap. The Shah’s commanding presence is emphasised through the frontal composition and gilded background, typical of Qajar court portraiture, which combined Persian traditions with European-inspired realism. The work is signed in Persian “Bandeh Sarah Mohammed Bagher Semiromi” and dated 1302 AH (1884–85 AD).
