Description

A domed lid and rounded finial, the bronze pen box is finely inlaid with silver, its surfaces enriched with a combination of geometric, epigraphic, and vegetal ornament. The lid is decorated with a central arcade of lobed panels enclosing palmettes and scrolling tendrils, while the sides bear long bands of kufic inscriptions inlaid in silver against a darkened ground, invoking blessings and good fortune. The underside and reverse continue the decoration with interlaced strapwork and scrolling arabesques.
