Lot 159:
Description
Of rectangular form with hinged lid, the exterior is finely decorated in mosaic inlay (khatamkari) of bone, wood, and stained elements, arranged in complex geometric star and polygonal patterns framed within cartouches. The top is further embellished with a central hexagonal medallion flanked by elongated panels inscribed in elegant nastaʿliq script, praising learning and wisdom. The front is fitted with two lock-plates and symmetrical lozenge-shaped reserves, all framed by delicate borders of interlaced mosaic bands. The interior is lined with painted and printed floral paper, displaying sprays of red and blue blossoms amid scrolling foliage on a cream ground, providing a vivid contrast to the ordered geometry of the exterior.
