Lot 15:
Description
A Persian Qur’anic prayer scroll, likely dating to the Safavid period (16th–17th century). Executed on parchment, the scroll is richly adorned with illuminated panels and bold calligraphy in large black naskh and thuluth script, interspersed with delicate floral and geometric decoration. The scroll opens with a magnificent illuminated headpiece in gold and lapis blue, richly detailed with interlacing arabesques and floral motifs, setting the tone for the sacred text that follows. Throughout the length of the scroll, Qur’anic verses are written in powerful script, bordered by fine gilded and polychrome marginal decoration.
