Lot 149:
Description
The dish is of shallow circular form with a wide flat rim and gently sloping walls. At the centre, an intricate six-pointed star medallion is filled with interlacing arabesques and vegetal scrolls. Surrounding this, bands of finely engraved inscriptions in elegant Kufic script radiate outward, interspersed with foliate motifs, creating a rhythmic interplay of calligraphy and ornament.
The broad rim is decorated with alternating roundels and panels, each filled with further inscriptions and arabesque designs, while the underside is engraved with concentric bands of calligraphy and a central roundel enclosing a geometric design. Traces of silver and copper inlay are visible.
Diameter: 19cm
