Description
A fine Ganga-Jamuna brass and copper lota, North India, 17th century, used traditionally for ritual water offerings. The vessel is of bulbous form with a flaring neck and splayed rim, its surface richly decorated with engraved and inlaid designs. The body features a continuous frieze of courtly figures beneath cusped arches, each finely detailed. The neck is embellished with vertical flutes, while concentric borders of foliate scrolls and geometric bands frame the composition.
