ANTIQUITIES AND ISLAMIC ART SALE
Lot 173:
Description
An exceptional and visually striking Mamluk Revival dish, masterfully inlaid with gold, silver, copper, and brass, produced in Syria around the turn of the 20th century.
The composition is centered around a circular medallion filled with interlaced geometric and floral motifs, framed by a wide band of finely inlaid Arabic calligraphy in thuluth script, executed in brilliant silver and contrasting copper. Surrounding this are lush arabesques, vine-scrolls, and knotwork rendered with intricate detail, creating a mesmerizing tapestry of form and symbolism. The wide, angled rim continues the decorative program with a repeating inscription and a lattice pattern enriched with mother-of-pearl tones and stylised palmettes.
Diameter: 35cm
