Lot 165:
Description
An impressive and finely crafted pair of hexagonal lanterns in the Mamluk Revival style, originating from Egypt or Syria in the late 19th to early 20th century. Each lantern is composed of six tapering panels, rising to a domed and pierced crown finial, surmounted by a suspension loop and adorned throughout with intricately worked geometric and arabesque motifs.
Executed in inlaid brass with silver and copper detailing, the surfaces are richly embellished with bands of Arabic calligraphy in thuluth script, interwoven with vegetal scrolls and medallions containing stylized floral and geometric patterns. The pierced domes allow for elegant light diffusion, while the hinged access panels and circular lower openings underscore their functionality.
