Description

This vibrant rectangular tile depicts a dynamic hunting scene with two regal horse riders. The male figure on the left, identified by the inscription above him as “the image of Luhrasb” (صورۀ لهراسپ), wears a crown and ornate garments, holding a bow and arrow. The female figure on the right is similarly adorned and holds a falcon, indicating nobility and skill in falconry. Both are mounted on detailed white horses galloping across a vivid blue floral landscape teeming with animals.

Above the riders, a mountainous landscape unfolds under swirling clouds, with small structures and trees completing the idyllic setting. The tile is framed with a floral patterned border in green, white, and red.

Inscription: Signed in Persian at the top as عمل استاد رضا (the work of Master Reza).

48 x 36 cm

Provenance: Formerly the property of a diplomat, acquired at Sotheby’s London in the 1970s.
